Board visibility

A board’s visibility decides who can look at it without being a member. Owners set it in Board Settings → Board Visibility.

Visibility Who can see the board Who can see a single task
Public (Open) Anyone with the link can view the board. Only members can make changes. Anyone with the link.
Semi-Private (Selective) Members only. Members, plus anyone you’ve sent a task’s share link to.
Private (Locked) Members only. No public or shared access. Members only.
  • Public suits open-source projects or a client who wants to watch progress without an account. Viewers can look but can’t edit or comment.
  • Semi-Private is a good default for agencies and client work. The board stays internal, but you can send a client a link to the one task they care about.
  • Private is for work that shouldn’t leave the team.

On a Public or Semi-Private board:

  1. Open the task page.
  2. Select Share task (or Share this task under Quick Actions).
  3. Copy the link and send it.

On a Semi-Private board, the person can open that one task without joining the board. The task page shows a Semi-private board notice so they know they’re seeing a single shared task.

On a Private board, task links only work for members. Anyone else sees This board is private. Only members can access tasks.

Owners can change visibility at any time. The change takes effect immediately. Making a board Private stops existing shared task links from working for non-members.
