Boards

A board is a shared workspace for one stream of work. Each board has its own columns, tasks, labels, members, visibility and connected repository. Most teams use one board per product or repository.

When you first open the planner, GH Planner creates a board for you with the default columns already set up. You can start adding tasks straight away.

The bar across the top of the planner switches between the main areas of the current board:

Area What it’s for
Workspace The board itself: columns, tasks and the toolbar. This is where you’ll spend most of your time.
Open PR Open a new pull request on the board’s repository, optionally linked to a task. See Opening pull requests.
Members See who’s on the board, invite people and change their permissions. See Members and invites.
Board Settings Rename the board, choose its repository, set visibility and turn automation on or off. Owners only.
GitHub Sync Check, connect or disconnect your GitHub account. See Connecting GitHub.

Above the board, the toolbar has buttons for adding tasks and columns, filters, labels, view modes, export and sharing.

On a phone, the top menu collapses into a menu button and the board list opens as a slide-out panel.

Open the Boards list to see every board you belong to. Select a board to open it.

  1. Open the Boards list.
  2. Select New board (the + button).
  3. Enter a name and confirm.

The new board opens with the default columns, and you’re its owner.

Open Board Settings to change how a board behaves. Only board Owners can change these settings.

Setting What it does
Board Name Rename the board.
GitHub Repository Restrict pull requests to a specific repository. Lets you pick PRs from a list and is required for auto-created tasks.
Board Visibility Choose Public, Semi-Private or Private. See Board visibility.
Merge Verification Require an emailed code before anyone merges a PR from this board. See Merge verification.
Auto-Create Tasks From PRs Create a task in the pull request column whenever a new PR appears in the repository. See Auto-create tasks from PRs.

Reset Board removes all shapes, connections and notes and puts the columns back in their default layout. Your tasks are not deleted. This is mainly useful if a board’s layout has got into a mess.

  1. Open the Boards list.
  2. Select the bin icon (Delete board) next to the board.
  3. Confirm.
