Opening pull requests

You can open a new pull request without going to GitHub. GH Planner creates it as you and links it to your task in the same step.

  1. Open the task.
  2. Select Open a new pull request prefilled with this task.
  3. The PR form opens with the task’s title and description already filled in.
  4. Check the details (see below) and create the PR.

The task is linked to the new PR and moves to the Pull Request column.

Select Open PR in the planner’s top menu to open a pull request that isn’t tied to an existing task, or to choose the task as you go.

If the board has a repository set, PRs are Locked to that repository. Otherwise you can open one in any repo you can access.

Field What to enter
Provider GitHub or GitLab, if you’ve connected both.
Repository The repository to open the PR in. Search your repositories by name.
Branches The branch with your changes (for example my-feature-branch) and the branch to merge into (usually main).
Title A short summary. Prefilled from the task when you start from one.
Description Summary, motivation and test plan. Prefilled from the task description.

GH Planner shows a comparison of the two branches so you can check that the right commits are included.

Use the arrow next to the create button (Toggle draft option) to switch to Create draft pull request. Draft PRs can’t be merged until they’re marked ready for review on GitHub.

You’ll see a confirmation with the PR number, plus buttons to Open on GitHub or Create another.
