Linking pull requests

Linking a task to a pull request is what makes GH Planner more than a plain kanban board. Once linked, the task shows the PR’s status, checks and reviews, and moves automatically as the PR progresses.

  1. Open the task and select Edit.
  2. Find Add Pull Request Link and use one of these:
    • Pick from the list: if the board has a repository set, choose Select a pull request… and search by title, #number or branch name.
    • Enter the number: type the PR number. GH Planner builds the link from the board’s repository.
    • Paste the URL: paste the full link, such as https://github.com/owner/repo/pull/123.
  3. Save.

The card now shows a PR badge. Open the task to see the pull request details.

The new task form has the same Add Pull Request Link field. Fill it in before you save.

If your team opens PRs on GitHub first and plans second, turn on Auto-Create Tasks From PRs in Board Settings. GH Planner then creates a linked task for every new open PR in the board’s repository. See Auto-create tasks from PRs.

If the code is on a branch but there’s no PR yet, open the task and select Open a new pull request prefilled with this task. GH Planner opens the PR on GitHub and links it to the task in one go. See Opening pull requests.

When a board has a GitHub Repository set, it only accepts pull requests from that repository. If you try to link a PR from somewhere else, you’ll see a PR restriction active message. Change or clear the repository in Board Settings if you need to track PRs from more than one repository.

Edit the task, clear the pull request field and save. The task stays where it is on the board, but it’ll no longer move automatically.

On the Free plan, each board can have up to 10 linked pull requests. See Plans and billing.
